PhD Research Retreat 2024

The Research Retreat has been part of the Institute’s programme since the outset. It takes place once a year over a period of three to five days providing a space for researchers to work on theses or other collaborative projects without outside distraction.

The retreat is a unique offer of the WI to its early career researchers. The retreat is meant to explore a practical theme/skill, which in 2024 is (academic) writing, and to reinforce the WI community spirit. Participants have the opportunity to improve their writing skills while working on a project of their own. In order to achieve this, the retreat is organized around a structured program alternating phases of concentrated work with relaxation and social moments.

When: Monday, 8 July 2024, 10:30 am until Wednesday, 10 July 2024, 11:00 am

Where: Seminarhaus Taubenblau, Gut Stolzenhagen, Northern Brandenburg

Academic Writing – getting into the doing and going on with it

Dr. Lena Eckert is a researcher in literature and gender studies and a certified writing consultant. For more than 15 years, she has been involved in the training of university educators in didactics, diversity, and writing.

In this workshop you will get to know methods, which help to smoothly kick off the writing and keep up the spirit. Moreover, you will get insight into some facts about the writing process, your writing type and other aspects of writing a PhD. We will also discuss different modes of collaborating with others. Maybe we will even be able to discover the fun in writing a PhD!
