Jane Reis Gonçalves Pereira is an Associate Professor of Constitutional Law at the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) and a Federal Judge in Brazil. During her research stay at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society, she collaborates with Dr. Clara Iglesias Keller within the research group “Technology, Power and Domination” on the joint project “Theories of Rights for the Digital Age”, which examines the adequacy of twentieth-century theories of fundamental rights in digitally mediated societies.

Her academic research focuses on constitutional theory and fundamental rights theory, with particular emphasis on constitutional interpretation, constitutional jurisdiction, and the relationship between rights protection and democratic legitimacy. She holds a PhD in Public Law from UERJ and a Master’s degree in in Constitutional Law and State Theory from PUC-Rio, and is currently conducting postdoctoral research at PUCRS, including a period as a visiting scholar at the University of Heidelberg. In addition to her stay in Berlin, two further research visits are planned later in the year, alongside continued in-person collaboration in Rio de Janeiro and Dublin.

She coordinates the long-term research project “Fundamental Liberties and Constitutional Courts” and is a member of the Brazilian Chapter of the International Society of Public Law (ICON-S). She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the academic journal Publicum, dedicated to advanced research in public law, constitutional theory, and related fields.
