Dr. Esther Görnemann

About
Esther Görnemann joined the Weizenbaum Institute in 2023 as a research synthesis referee. At the core of her work is synthesizing the state of research on key issues of the digitally networked society in order to inform future research and to support the transfer of knowledge towards policy and the general public.
Research
In her research, Esther explores questions of digital and technological sovereignty and the implications of generative AI on work and employment across various professional fields. In systematic literature reviews and knowledge transfer formats aimed at policymakers, society, and industry, she connects these thematic areas and synthesizes interdisciplinary research discourses.
Before joining the Weizenbaum Institute, she worked as a lecturer and research associate (postdoc) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, in management consulting (KPMG IT and Finance Advisory), and held various positions in the photovoltaic industry. Esther holds a German-French double master’s degree in International Marketing and Business Management. In 2022, she earned her PhD in Information Systems, focusing on values, emotions, and moments of truth in interactions with anthropomorphized computer agents.
Her research has been published in international conferences and journals, including CHIWORK’25, Human-Computer Interaction, ECIS’21, ECIS’20, and IS4SI.
