New Paper: Challenges and Opportunities of Interdisciplinary Research
Why should researchers engage in interdisciplinary research? When is this approach most appropriate? And how can scholars from different disciplines collaborate effectively?
Many complex problems and emerging phenomena require collaboration across academic disciplines. As a result, interdisciplinary research (IDR) is increasingly recognized as a valuable approach to generating new knowledge. However, it also presents significant challenges.
In a new paper, WI researchers Gergana Vladova, Jennifer Haase, and Sascha Friesike review the literature on IDR from the past 35 years. They address these challenges by synthesizing key insights about IDR and explaining their implications for researchers. The article aims to empower researchers to successfully engage in IDR and explore how they can be better supported in these efforts.
The paper „Why, with whom, and how to conduct interdisciplinary research? A review from a researcher’s perspective” is available open access via Science and Public Policy.
