Research Day 2025
Our 8th successful Research Day took place on 26 June 2025!
Martin Krzywdzinski opened the one-day event followed by three of our PI‘s – Sonja Schimmler, Jan Mendling and Brendt Mittelstadt – who gave an insight into their research. The focus on topics relating to the use and application of genAI was particularly striking this year. This also showed in some of the 8 following workshops, which were hosted by WI researchers.
An explicit connections between the work with genAI were identified, for example to strengthen collaborations (in the workshop with Esther Görnemann) or to reflect on the current framework conditions of AI in academic supervision (with Katrin Frisch). But also topics like the WI research agenda, which was analysed with regard to the development of digital technologies and the current democratic crisis (Clara Iglesias Keller et. al.) and a practical workshop on science communication was held (by Clarissa Walter & Katharina Berr). In addition representatives of the Short Projects provided brief insights into their outcomes and futher plans. The day closed with a recap of the workshops and final remarks by Sascha Friesike.
The Research Day showed us once again how important it is to come together across all disciplines and status groups to discuss current topics, drive projects forward and to try out new things. A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped organise this year’s Weizenbaum Research Day! We look forward to the next year’s edition! And last but not least: The day wrapped up with a relaxed and cheerful summer party and awesome music: Special thanks to Heike Lohmar and LK Seiling for DJ-ing!
