What should ChatGPT (not) say about the Holocaust?

Generative forms of artificial intelligence (AI), such as large language models (LLMs), are now used for various tasks, from writing social media content and answering questions to creating more engaging customer experiences. However, this technology also raises many concerns about the propagation of different forms of hate speech. In this talk, we present the findings of our multi-method project regarding the risks of propagation of antisemitic speech by generative AI models, which bridges social science and computer science.

Mykola Makhortykh is an Alfred Landecker lecturer at the Institute of Communication and Media Science, where he studies how politics- and history-centered information behavior in online environments is affected by algorithm- and AI-driven systems. His other research interests include trauma and memory studies, armed conflict reporting, disinformation and computational propaganda research, cybersecurity and critical security studies, and bias in information retrieval systems.
