Hideyuki Tanaka: SDGs’ Initiative of the University of Tokyo

Prof. Hideyuki Tanaka (University of Tokyo) will present the Future Society Initiative, a project that brings together research activities of the university that contribute to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.

The University of Tokyo has established the Future Society Initiative, FSI, in 2017. The initiative aims to contribute to the future of humanity and the planet. The initiative registers research projects of the university that contribute to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. The university regards the SDGs as a framework to bring together disparate activities intended to bring about a better future. The FSI is encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration among projects based on the SDGs. Moreover, the FSI aims to contribute to realizing Society 5.0 proposed by the Japanese Government. It is a knowledge-intensive society powered by the combination of AI and big data with ICT. Society 5.0 as well as the SDGs pursues an equitable society where all can enjoy the fruits of progress. Professor Tanaka, as a board member of the FSI and the Dean of the School, will introduce activities of the initiative and the school, especially focusing on ICT.
