Thorsten Thiel has been Professor of Democracy Promotion and Digital Policy at the University of Erfurt since October 2022. From 2017-2022, he was head of the research group "Democracy and Digitalisation" at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society, where he is now associate researcher of the group "Technology, Power and Domination".
Previous positions were: Coordinator of the Leibniz Research Network "Crises of a Globalised World" (2013-2017) and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Cluster of Excellence "The Formation of Normative Orders" in Frankfurt am Main. Thorsten Thiel was also a substitute professor for political theory and the history of ideas at the University of Trier and a substitute professor for comparative government at the University of Erfurt.
