Dr. Dr. Hanjo Hamann, JSM (Stanford)

Former Research Fellow

Hanjo Hamann is a legal researcher and obtained doctoral degrees in law 2014 (with a German thesis on “methods and epistemic value of empirical research in law“) and in economics 2016 (with an English thesis on “market myopia and agent delegation in economic decision-making“). He is a fellow at the Young ZiF of the Bielefeld Institute of Advanced Studies, a junior fellow of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences, as well as a co-editor of both the International Journal of Language & Law (JLL) and a German-language anthology on “open access to legal research“ (2019).

Hamann works at the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods in Bonn, and as an external post-doctoral lecturer at the Freie Universität Berlin, with previous teaching assignments at the universities of Bremen, Bonn, Gießen, Mannheim, Siegen, Zurich and Chengdu. His teaching and research focusses on the law of contracts and corporations, with particular emphasis on digital transformations and data-based methods including empirical legal studies, economic analysis of law, and legal corpus linguistics.
