Anna Litvinenko, Ph.D.

Former Research Fellow

Anna Litvinenko, PhD, is a research fellow at the Weizenbaum Institute with the research group “Digitalisation and the Transnational Public Sphere”. From 2015 to 2020 she was a researcher in the Emmy Noether Junior Research Group “Mediating (Semi-)Authoritarianism: The Power of the Internet in the Post-Soviet Region” at the Free University of Berlin.

After receiving her Ph.D. in 2007, she worked as an associate professor at the Department of International Journalism of Saint Petersburg State University (SPSU), Russia. Starting from 2010, she was head of the German-Russian Centre of Journalism at SPSU. In 2012-2015, she was in charge of the Office for International Academic and Scientific Exchange of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, SPbU. Her research focuses on political communication in (semi-)authoritarian regimes, and on the role of social media in various socio-political contexts.
