Digitalization & Sustainability
This cross-sectional format should accompany the transformation to a sustainable networked society. The transformation processes observed included the sustainable digitization of energy networks, mobility, and education, but also substitution effects in the working environments of the future.
This cross-sectional format conducted research at the Weizenbaum Institute from 2017 to 2022. In the newly launched research program, research will henceforth be organised in 16 research groups. These will be flanked and supported by the new Weizenbaum Digital Science Center.
The participating research groups were dedicated to the overarching question of how information and communication technology systems (ICT) will have a positive or negative impact on achieving the UN sustainability goals of Agenda 2030.
In addition to the participation of researchers of the format in symposia (such as the Great Transformation Conference of the German Sociological Association), the participating research groups were jointly developing the knowledge and workshop tool "Weizenbaum Knowledge Hypercube". A prototype of the Hypercube was presented in December 2019 at the research conference "Shaping the Future: Digital and Sustainable", organized jointly with the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
