Prof. Dr. Yuya Shibuya

About
Yuya Shibuya is an associate professor at the University of Tokyo, Japan, focusing on the interaction between virtual and real worlds, and designing participatory structures. She explores democratic participatory structures in the digital era and their impact on behavior, using qualitative and quantitative studies to address behavioral diversity and inequality in urban and rural digital solutions.
In her fellowship project, she delves into Civic Data, data “captured and owned by citizens for citizens”, empowering democratic participation and sustainability. The project aims to develop a conceptual framework for Civic Data through case studies in multiple countries.
At Weizenbaum-Institut, her research combines expertise in data analysis and theoretical understanding of Civic Data, promoting democratic engagement and sustainable progress. This interdisciplinary approach empowers citizens to address local challenges and shape their communities' future.
