About

Tara Merk is a postdoc at the Weizenbaum Institute, where she researches Community Data Centers. Previously, she worked with the ERC BlockchainGov project at CNRS Paris, as an ICDE Fellow at The New School NY, and with Metagov and Other Internet. The goal across her work is to research innovative ownership models that grant more people governance and financial rights over digital infrastructures—ranging from platforms to data centers.

Applying her interdisciplinary background in economics, information systems management and political science, her PhD thesis explored the process of Exit to Community, i.e. transitioning organizations and technologies in the digital platform economy into community ownership and governance.
