About

In today’s hybrid media landscape, the boundaries of “news” are increasingly blurred, shaped not only by journalism but also by audiences encountering media across platforms. The project of Tali Aharoni investigates how audiences in four different countries (Argentina, Norway, UK, US) define and evaluate news, exploring the flexibility and consequences of these definitions in daily media routines. By focusing on audience perspectives, it seeks to inform both academic debates and industry practices.

Tali Aharoni is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Digital News at the Reuters Institute, University of Oxford. She completed her Ph.D. in Communication & Journalism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, focusing on trust and distrust in contemporary news. Her research interests include news audiences, trust, news avoidance, social media, and journalistic production. Her recent publications appear in Political Communication, Communication Research, Digital Journalism, and Journalism Studies.

Tali Aharoni serves as the Student and Early Career Representative for Political Communication at ICA. In 2025, she received several awards for her dissertation, including the ICA Journalism Studies Division’s Outstanding Dissertation Award and the Alex Berger Prize for Outstanding Dissertation.
