About
Oleg Kashirskikh received his PhD in History and Political Science from Julius-Maximilians-University, Germany. From 2007 to 2023, he worked as a Professor of Communication at the School of Communication, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow.
His research focuses on the analysis of media and political narratives, the study of populism and authoritarianism, and the formation of political and civic identity in the context of post-socialist transformations. Oleg Kashirskikh also examines how historically entrenched practices of depoliticization and social structures influence citizens’ perceptions of power and their participation in public life.
In his publications, he combines qualitative methods of text and media-content analysis with critical theories of democracy and citizenship. He is the author and co-author of studies on media practices in Russia, post-communist democratization, and the dynamics of political and gender discourse in the public sphere. His work actively explores the intersections of neoliberal transformations, media, and political identity, aiming to understand how communication shapes citizens’ behavior and social norms in contemporary societies.
Oleg Kashirskikh’s research has been published in the European Journal of Communication, the Journal of Strategic Communication, and other academic journals and monographs.
