Naomi Appelman

About
Naomi Appelman is a Dutch interdisciplinary researcher and social advocate whose work explores how technology can reflect, obscure, or exacerbate social inequalities. She is committed to leveraging law, advocacy, and action to dismantle systems of oppression.
In 2024, she completed her PhD at the University of Amsterdam, focusing on resistance to online exclusion and algorithmic discrimination. Her expertise lies in EU information law and democratic theory.
In addition to her academic work, Naomi has extensive experience in social justice advocacy and strategic litigation at the intersection of human rights and technology. She co-founded the Racism and Technology Center, a small NGO that examines social oppression through the lens of technology and undertakes various advocacy and litigation initiatives.
