Prof. Lawrence Lessig

Lawrence Lessig is a professor at the Harvard Law School, a political activist and a well-known thinker of a free network culture. Since the 1990s, he has been at the forefront of many debates about the freedom and openness of the Internet. He pleads for a new copyright law that promotes creative work and at the same time does justice to the changed technical framework conditions of the Internet. He is co-founder of the non-profit organization Creative Commons, which provides standard license agreements for the simple management of rights of use for copyrighted works. With “Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace” (1999) he gained worldwide academic recognition in law and political science. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has received numerous awards, including the Freedom Award of the Free Software Foundation.
