Dr. Katharina Baum
Person
Katharina Baum is an information systems researcher focused on understanding how the use of digital technologies affects individual and societal well-being. Her work has centered around how social media affects users' self-esteem, body image and perceptions of social reality. She also explores how people can use social media in ways that promote their mental health. Her research uses survey experiments, large-scale data analysis and intensive longitudinal studies.
Katharina Baum is currently an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Information Systems and Society at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. She holds a PhD in Information Systems from the University of Potsdam. At the Weizenbaum Institute she is affiliated with the research group ”Well-being in the Digital World”.
