Hannah Hartmuth

Hannah Hartmuth is a research associate in the Emmy Noether Research Group “Local Digital Public Spheres” at the Weizenbaum Institute. Her research focuses on collective identities within progressive counter-public spheres in contexts of far-right hegemony, employing both qualitative social science and ethnographic methods as well as computational methods.
During her studies in Media and Communication Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, she focused particularly on social theories and public sphere theories for researching various forms of social inequality. For a presentation at the DGPuK Annual Conference in 2025, she and a colleague were awarded third prize for the best submission by PhD students and undergraduates. During her studies, she also worked as a student assistant in various departments of the Institute for Media and Communication Studies in Berlin.
