Dr. Gabriel Bartl

About
Gabriel Bartl holds a doctorate in sociology. In recent years he has been involved in several research projects dealing with risk, (in)security and crisis. His work has spanned various branches of research, such as acceptance and risk perception, resilience, surveillance, critical security studies and science and technology studies. Among other things, his work focuses on the social implications resulting from the observable trend towards an increasing epistemization and quantification of (in)security.
At the Weizenbaum Institute, he is involved in the DFG-funded research project 'Between Economy and Democracy: Reorganizing Research Evaluation through Metadata in the Digital Era'.
Gabriel holds a doctorate from the Bundeswehr University Munich and has worked at the Free University of Berlin, the German Institute of Urban Affairs and the Centre Marc Bloch, where he most recently headed the 'Multiple Crises' project. He has also taught at the Institute for Computer Science at the Free University of Berlin.
