Prof. Ariadne Vromen
About
Ariadne Vromen is Professor of Political Sociology at the University of Sydney, Australia. She has undertaken extensive research on young people’s political participation; including her collaborative project, The Civic Network, on how young people use social media for politics in Australia, the UK and USA. Her recent book, Digital Citizenship and Political Engagement, looks at the rise of digital campaigning organisations and storytelling strategies in advocacy politics. Her current research projects are on: digital political crowd formations via online petitions and donations; public attitudes towards digital rights and governance; and, young women and the future of work.
While at the Weizenbaum Institute Ariadne will focus on theorising digital political participation with the Digital Citizenship research group, and on developing collaborative research agendas on the diffusion of online petitioning. Her upcoming Weizenbaum talk in October (date will be circulated soon) will look at how processes of digital personalisation and emotion-laden storytelling have transformed individual participation and advocacy organisation politics.
