Anna-Verena Nosthoff
Anna-Verena Nosthoff is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Freiburg and a lecturer at the Institute of Political Sciences at the University of Vienna. Her research focuses on the cyberneticization of the political and the contemporary relevance of early critiques of cybernetics (esp. Anders, Ellul, Flusser and Baudrillard). Besides her academic research, she works as an essayist for, a.o., Die Republik, Berliner Gazette, NZZ Feuilleton and Spex.
She has published on critical theory, the philosophy of technology, the history of cybernetics, current forms of cybernetic governance and their implications for the future of our societies and the political, as well as the work of Theodor W. Adorno, Emmanuel Levinas, Giorgio Agamben, Günther Anders and Samuel Beckett in, a.o. Cultural Politics, Culture, Theory & Critique, Thesis Eleven, Critical Research on Religion, Jahrbuch Technikphilosophie, Behemoth and various edited volumes. Her book on the dialectics of freedom and control in digitized societies (co-authored with Felix Maschewski) is forthcoming with Nicolai Verlag (2019). She is co-editor of the political journal engagée.
