Data Workers Unite! A Transnational Assembly
Over two days, Data Workers Unite! A Transnational Assembly will bring together data workers from around the world to share experiences, network, and make their voices heard by policymakers, academics, and the public.
The two-day summit, Data Workers Unite! A Transnational Assembly, organized by Data Workers’ Inquiry and SUPERRR, and hosted by Weizenbaum Institute, centers the perspectives of data workers who are often excluded from policy debates despite facing precarious conditions.
The program is designed to foster dialogue across different audiences:
- Worker-to-worker networking through a participatory workshop to build transnational connections, share strategies for resistance, and compare experiences.
- Policy engagement via a roundtable where workers can present their concerns directly to parliamentarians.
- A public-facing event amplifying key findings and demands.
By bringing the voices of those silenced in the AI industry into public view, the Assembly advances understanding of the industry’s real social impacts and builds momentum for systemic change.
Data workers who have served as community researchers at the Data Workers’ Inquiry project will join us in person at the Weizenbaum Institute. Day 1 will be dedicated to a closed-door workshop where the workers will deepen collective analysis of the structural realities of data work while fostering organizing strategies that transcend borders.
Insights and demands emerging from the workshop will directly feed into the evening forum, where data workers and policymakers meet face-to-face. Policymakers will hear testimonies rarely acknowledged in mainstream AI debates, and workers will have the chance to bring their priorities straight to decision-makers.
The summit concludes with a public event featuring a keynote by Data Workers’ Inquiry principal investigator Dr. Milagros Miceli, who will discuss the project’s approach, key findings, and methodology. Closing the Assembly, a panel of data workers will then present their research, reflections, and ongoing organizing initiatives, followed by an open exchange with the audience.
