Prof. Christian Grothoff, Ph.D.: Electronic Payment Systems and European Values

Payment systems are a critical infrastructure where the technology creates an implicit strait-jacket for our life. While a multitude of new electronic payment options are competing for our attention, the advantage of economies of scale creates a natural drive for oligopolies.

In his lecture, Christian Grothoff talked about the implications of using the various payment systems for human rights and economic well-being. A focus was on a requirements analysis towards a socially desirable outcome, and concrete steps we can take towards such an outcome.
