Manfred Hauswirth

Manfred Hauswirth ist geschäftsführender Institutsleiter des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Offene Kommunikationssysteme (FOKUS) und Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für „Open Distributed Systems“ an der Technischen Universität Berlin. Zuvor war er Vizedirektor des Digital Enterprise Research Instituts (DERI, jetzt DSI) und Professor an der National University of Ireland, Galway.

Er forscht zu verteilten Informationssystemen, dem Internet der Dinge, Stromdatenverarbeitung und Linked Data, Semantik und künstlicher Intelligenz. In diesen Bereichen hat er zahlreiche internationale Preise für seine Projekte gewonnen und ist in vielen wissenschaftlichen und politischen Gremien zur Gestaltung der Digitalisierung aktiv.

Er ist Direktor und Principal Investigator im Weizenbaum-Institut, dem deutschen Internet-Institut, und Principal Investigator im „Einstein Center Digital Future“ (ECDF), im „Berlin Big Data Center“ (BBDC), dem „Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data“ (BIFOLD) und der „Helmholtz-Einstein International Berlin Research School in Data Science“ (HEIBRiDS). Manfred Hauswirth ist Associate Editor der „IEEE Transactions on Services Computing“ und der „ACM Transactions on Internet Technology“, Mitglied des „IEEE Computer Society Conference Advisory Committee“, Partner im „Web Science Trust Network of Laboratories“ (WSTNet), Co-Sprecher für den Bereich Quantencomputing bei der Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Sprecher des Kompetenznetzwerks Quantencomputing der Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Co-Sprecher des Fraunhofer Strategischen Forschungsfeldes Quantentechnologien, Sprecher des „Fraunhofer-Zentrums für die Sicherheit Sozio-Technischer Systeme“ (SIRIOS), Sprecher des Fraunhofer-Leistungszentrums „Digitale Vernetzung“ (2016-2018), Mitglied des Direktoriums der Fraunhofer Academy, sowie als Experte in zahlreiche Beiräte, Gremien und Expertennetzwerke zur Digitalisierung eingebunden.

Manfred Hauswirth ist Senior Member des Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) und der Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) und Mitglied der Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI).

Geboren 1966 in St. Johann im Pongau, Salzburg, Studium der Informatik an der TU Wien (Dipl.-Ing., 1993), Promotion in Informatik an der TU Wien (Dr. techn., 1999), 2002-2006 Senior Researcher an der École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), 2006-2014 Professor an der National University of Ireland in Galway und Vizedirector des Digital Enterprise Research Instituts (DERI, jetzt DSI). Seit 2014 geschäftsführender Institutsleiter des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Offene Kommunikationssysteme (FOKUS) und Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für „Open Distributed Systems“ an der Technischen Universität Berlin.
