Dr. Sana Ahmad
About
Sana Ahmad is a Research Associate at the Weizenbaum Institute, where she investigates the ethical adoption of AI within global value chains (GVCs) in the Global South. Her research lies at the intersection of global value and production network (GVC/GPN) studies and labor process research, with a particular focus on power relations in both trade and employment relations.
Her projects also include a forthcoming book on social media content moderation in India, as well as research on meaningful work and migration in Germany. Beyond her own scholarship, she contributes to the planning and implementation of research projects within her research group and provides supervision and mentorship to doctoral researchers and student assistants.
Sana Ahmad holds an interdisciplinary PhD in Sociology and Communication Sciences from the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Freie Universität Berlin. Her research interests span employment relations, automation, AI, GVCs, and the global political economy, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches.
She received full scholarships for both her Erasmus Mundus Master’s and doctoral studies and is an active member of several academic and political networks. Sana Ahmad regularly presents her work at international academic conferences and public events.
