Prof. Hermann Elendner, Ph.D.

Hermann Elendner's research focuses on the emergence of money, in particular crypto-currencies. He is studying how virtual currencies generate value, how to incorporate the new asset class of crypto tokens in portfolio management, and how the micro-structure of blockchain markets provides liquidity and resiliency. He is also working on crypto-token value stabilisation, and is the creator of the F5 crypto investment strategy (patent pending), trading under its ISIN.

At the Weizenbaum Institute, together with research group 17, he strives to deepen our understanding of crypto-currency valuation, in particular the pricing of the momentum factor. He also studies how to construct blockchain-based metrics that capture information identifying the utilisation of crypto tokens as media of exchange (short-term trust) versus as stores of value (long-term trust).

Hermann is a research associate at the Centre for Blockchain Technologies at University College London. He has been a professor at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and a visiting scholar at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He received his Ph.D. in Finance from the Vienna Graduate School of Finance (VGSF) and has a background (master's degrees) both in business from WU Vienna and in computer science and economics from the Vienna University of Technology.
