Since January 2023, she has been a research associate at the chair of Prof. Dr. Teresa Naab at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies at the University of Mannheim. Her research continues to focus on political media use. In particular, she is concerned with social, normative and infrastructural aspects of digital political communication, such as on social media and messenger apps. She is particularly interested in norms and competencies necessary for a democratic coexistence in networked societies.
She also serves as the Early-Career Scholars representative on the management team of the Political Communication Section of the European Communication Research and Education Conference (ECREA).
Emilija Gagrčin was a research associate at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society and a doctoral candidate at Freie Universität Berlin in the department of Prof. Dr. Martin Emmer until December 2022. As one of the central pillars of the former research group "Digital Citizenship", she investigated political participation and civic norms in social networks in her dissertation.
