Dr. Isabella Hermann

Associate Researcher

About

The project at the Weizenbaum Institute explores how "desirable digital futures" from science fiction literature can be a resource for real democratic digital transformation. From a political science perspective, Isabella Hermann generally deals with questions such as how science fiction shapes narratives around technological developments, how we can combine technical progress and social innovation, and, above all, how we can shape positive futures in dystopian times.

Her recent publications are "Science-Fiction zur Einführung " (Junius Verlag) and "Zukunft ohne Angst. Wie Anti-Dystopien neue Perspektiven eröffnen" (oekom Verlag). From 2023 to 2025, she co-hosted the SWR podcast "Das war Morgen" with Aiki Mira. She is also a member of the board of the Berlin based foundation Stiftung Zukunft Berlin
