About

David Wegmann is a Fellow at the Weizenbaum Institute and a Ph.D. student at Aarhus University’s Datalab. As part of the Social Media Influence project, he investigates the role of social media in modern societies. His work focuses particularly on the use of YouTube, the platform’s content, and how computational methods can help us better understand both.

His Ph.D. research addresses the growing need for YouTube scholarship in the European and especially Danish context, where the platform’s role in democratic discourse remains understudied. Drawing on a large-scale data donation study, he combines detailed trace data with survey responses, and computational video content analysis.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and linguistics from the University of Bielefeld and the University of Istanbul, and a master’s degree in cognition and communication from the University of Copenhagen. In his media research, David draws on his experience in professional media production.
