The Summer School invites researchers and practitioners to explore the space of 'Open Science & Open Data'. Join us as we explore key intersections of openness and AI.

Date: 15 - 18 September 2025
Application Deadline: 30 June 2025

The 2025 Berlin Summer School on Artificial Intelligence and Society invites researchers and practitioners to explore the space of 'Open Science & Open Data'. Promoting transparency, accessibility, and collaboration in scientific research becomes all the more important in an era of rapid advancement of generative AI. These principles of Open Science are essential as they drive the free sharing of datasets, algorithms, and research outcomes; fostering innovation, reproducibility, and ethical standards. Open collaboration helps researchers worldwide to identify and mitigate bias, and ultimately develop fairer, more robust, and trustworthy AI models that benefit society.

Join us as we explore key intersections of openness and AI. Participants will engage with leading experts to tackle implementing FAIR principles (findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability), building resilient data infrastructures, and maintaining scientific integrity in AI-driven research. The curriculum addresses pressing challenges in reproducibility, anonymization techniques, and citizen science approaches that democratize AI development. Beyond theoretical discussions, you'll gain hands-on experience with practical tools and methodologies essential for responsible research. The Summer School offers you valuable insights, skills, and connections needed to advance ethical, open practices in contemporary AI research.

The Summer School will be a 3,5-day event from Monday, 15 September 2025 to Thursday, 18 September 2025. It is designed for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers from the Weizenbaum Institute, the Cluster of Excellence “Science of Intelligence”, the network of German Centres of Excellence for AI: BIFOLD, DFKI, Lamarr, MCML, ScaDSAI, and TUEAI, and from other universities and research institutes, who are passionate about machine learning, data management and the impact of cutting-edge AI on society. Interested Master’s students in their last year are also cordially invited to participate.
