Marek Jessen

Person

Marek Jessen is an associate researcher in the research group "Norm Setting and Decision-Making Processes." His work focuses on data protection in digital payments and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) at ZEVEDI – the Center for Responsible Digitalization, where he is part of the research project "Money as a Data Carrier" under the direction of Carola Westermeier.

Previously, he worked as a digital finance advisor at the Association of German Banks (BdB) and as a trainee at the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS).

Marek came to Berlin for his Master’s in International Relations (specializing in European Studies) at Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and the University of Potsdam. His master’s thesis focused on the political negotiation process of the GDPR. As part of his studies, he spent time abroad in Paris (Sciences Po), focusing on European monetary policy and the financial crisis. He completed his bachelor’s degree in political science at Marburg and Brno (Masaryk University).
