Dr. João C. Magalhães

About

João C. Magalhães is an assistant professor in Media, Politics, and Democracy at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. At the Weizenbaum Institute, he works on a project about the global political history of platform content moderation, funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) through a Veni grant.

Before arriving in The Netherlands, João was a senior postdoc at the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG), in Berlin, and a PhD researcher at the Media and Communications Department at the London Schools of Economics and Political Science (LSE). For almost a decade, he worked as a journalist at “Folha de S.Paulo”, Brazil’s leading newspaper.
