Eni Mustafaraj
About
Dr. Eni Mustafaraj, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Wellesley College in MA, USA, has almost two decades of research experience in studying the integrity of the online information environment through algorithm auditing methods. One of her papers in this topic from 2010 contains the first documented instance of the use of political bots on Twitter for influencing political elections.
At the Weizenbaum Institute, she will collaborate with researchers from two groups, Platform Algorithms and Digital Propaganda, and Digital News Dynamics, on a project titled “The Algorithmic Mediation of Gender Ideology on TikTok“. This project investigates the intersection of platform algorithms and the production & consumption of ideologically-charged content on TikTok, focusing specifically on the expanding ""womanosphere"", and relying on a multimodal computational approach that leverages GenAI tools for analysis.
Dr. Mustafaraj is a member of the international scientific panel on information integrity about climate science and served recently as the program chair of the 2025 AAAI ICWSM conference.
