Daniela Stoltenberg has headed an Emmy Noether Group on Local Digital Publics at the Weizenbaum Institute since January 1, 2026. In 2026, the Tagesspiegel named her one of the 100 most important minds in Berlin science and included her among the Rising Stars, young researchers whose ideas are groundbreaking.

Her research focuses on political communication on social media, with a particular emphasis on communication geography. She is interested in the role that places and spaces, as well as proximity and distance, play in the formation of political discourse. Her work primarily draws on methods from computational social science and mixed-methods designs.

Daniela received her doctorate in Journalism and Communication Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, where she had previously studied Communication Studies and Political Science. Her dissertation, published as The Spaces of Public Issues: How Social Media Discourses Shape Public Imaginations of Issue Spatiality (Routledge, 2024), received the Dissertation Award of the German Communication Association (DGPuK).
