Johannes Buchmann is Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics at the TU Darmstadt.
After studying Mathematics, Physics, Philosophy and Education, passing his assessor exams and obtaining his doctorate and habilitation in Mathematics, he was Professor of Computer Science at Saarland University from 1988 to 1996 and Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics at Technical University Darmstadt from 1996 to 2019.
He received the Leibniz Prize of the DFG in 1993, the Karl Heinz Beckurts Prize in 2006, the IT Security Prize of the Horst Görtz Foundation in 2008, the Tsung MingTu Prize of the National Science Council Taiwan in 2012 and the Konrad Zuse Medal of the German Informatics Society in 2017. He is a member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz, the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the German Academy of Science and Engineering, and Leopoldina.
His work focuses on cryptography, especially post-quantum cryptography and IT security and privacy.
