About
The broad interest of the "Platform Algorithms and Digital Propaganda" research group is on the digital information ecosystems and algorithms, with a focus on disruptive influence campaigns, amongst them Russian propaganda and disinformation online.
Valentyna is a media and communication scholar, conducting her research in the Department of Communication, University of Copenhagen. Her PhD project is a qualitative exploration of the gendered narratives and discourses in Russian propaganda and disinformation about the full-scale war in Ukraine, with a critical and feminist approach.
Parallel to conducting research, Valentyna has appeared extensively in the Danish media since the beginning of the full-scale war, providing insights on the Russian information operations, media control, and sociopolitical developments, and has also spoken on these topics at a multitude of international conferences and symposiums. Her latest research article titled “She Played All the Pregnant Women!”: Russian Disinformation, Symbolic Annihilation, and the Mariupol Hospital Attack” was recently published in the International Journal of Communication.
