Stefan Sauer is a member of the German Bundestag, is a member of the Bundestag's "Digital Agenda" committee and holds the deputy chair of the Bundestag's Enquete Commission on Artificial Intelligence. These tasks are the basis for his membership in the advisory board of the Weizenbaum Institute.
After training as an industrial clerk in Darmstadt and studying business administration at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, he worked for various financial institutions in the areas of controlling, IT organisation and project realisation (1995 - 2002) and as deputy director of TxB Transaktionsbank GmbH, Frankfurt (2002 - 2007). In addition to his work, Stefan Sauer was involved in politics on a voluntary basis in the district of Groß-Gerau (from 1989). In March 2007, he won the mayoral election in the district town of Groß-Gerau and held this office until his appointment to the German Bundestag (direct mandate) in 2017.
In addition to his activities mentioned at the beginning of this article, Stefan Sauer is a member of the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development of the German Bundestag, is a member of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Group "Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises" of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, and is a member of numerous other parliamentary groups and political working groups.
