Johann Cordes

About
As a research fellow, Johann Cordes studied the role of explainable AI and mechanistic interpretability in assigning responsibility throughout the lifecycle of complex, opaque AI systems. After earning his law degree from Humboldt University in Berlin, Johann has been a doctoral candidate and research assistant to Prof. Dr. Philipp Hacker, LLM (Yale), at the European New School of Digital Studies (European University Viadrina) since 2021.
His research focuses on the intersection of private law and complex technologies, particularly how these technologies affect legal frameworks for allocating responsibility. He is also interested in legal transparency requirements for AI and digitalization in financial services law. His interdisciplinary work is published in both national and international journals.
