Raoul Moritz Nissen

Raoul Moritz Nissen earned his law degree after having studied at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main and the University of Florida. During his legal clerkship in Berlin, he worked – among others – at the Federal Ministry of Justice and international law firms in both Berlin and Stockholm and passed the bar exam. Just recently, he spent a research stay at the University of California, Berkeley, where he did research on the data economy and its legal implications in the US.

Raoul Moritz Nissen is a Ph.D. candidate at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin under the supervision of Prof. Axel Metzger. His Ph.D. thesis is about “The monetary value of data in private law”. Therein, he is exploring the legal and economic factors that determine the assessment of the monetary value of data under European and German law, especially with regard to claims arising from private law, e.g. claims for damages and compensation in case of “data as counterperformance”. In addition to exploring the existing law, he also examines how best to design the lex ferenda of future data private law.
