Niklas von Kalckreuth

Niklas v. Kalckreuth studied mechanical engineering B. Sc. at the Technical University of Berlin from 2011, focused on human-machine interaction. He completed his undergraduate studies in 2016 with the thesis "Explicit versus implicit categorization of icons in visual search on smartphones" supervised by Prof. Dr. med. Manfred Thüring.

Studies in Human Factors M.Sc. at the Technische Universität Berlin followed, which he completed in 2019 with the thesis "Safe Passage - Analysis of marine casualties in the Kiel Canal and the associated locks" supervised by Prof. Dr. Gisela Müller-Plath. Key points of the postgraduate studies were human error, automation psychology and perceptual psychology.

In 2018 he studied sociology at the University of Ljubljana as part of an Erasmus semester and focused on the effects of digitalisation on existing social structures. In addition to his studies, he worked as a student trainee in project management at Siemens AG from 2012 to 2018.

Since 2019, he has been working as a research assistant and Ph.D. student at the Weizenbaum Institute. His work focuses on topics such as human decision-making in context of privacy, data protection and digital trust.
